For Dolaporn Chanachai and Nattapong Phattanagosai, architecture is as much about the life unfolding between buildings as the structures themselves. The managing directors co-founded Cloud-floor in 2014, developing the Bangkok-based studio into an interdisciplinary practice spanning architecture, urbanism, research and cultural programming.

Their shared interest lies in how design shapes the ways people experience, understand and participate in a city. Projects begin with close attention to place: the character of a neighbourhood, its existing networks and the knowledge held by those who live and work there. Rather than approaching communities as passive recipients, Dolaporn and Nattapong collaborate with local groups, creative practitioners and other stakeholders to identify overlooked resources and create new possibilities around them.

Reading in the District, presented as part of Bangkok Design Week, exemplifies this approach. Through cultural activity, the programme directs fresh attention towards local identity while connecting community knowledge with a wider audience. It is architecture expressed not simply through form, but through encounter, participation and exchange.

Cloud-floor’s work has gained recognition from the Kyoto Global Design Awards, ArchDaily and the Venice Architecture Biennale. Yet its deeper distinction lies in the pair’s expanded understanding of their discipline. For Dolaporn and Nattapong, designing a place also means nurturing the relationships and programmes that sustain it – allowing architecture to become an active framework through which neighbourhoods can evolve on their own terms.
