Vayupad Ruttanapet’s apprenticeship in sculpture began long before art school. Raised in a family of artisans working at Thailand’s Office of Traditional Thai Arts, he learnt established techniques from experienced craftsmen and assisted in monument making, absorbing early lessons in the discipline and precision of traditional practice.
His education broadened those foundations. Vayupad studied Khon at the College of Dramatic Arts before completing a degree in Sculpture at Silpakorn University in 2023. Today, he works independently from his Nakhon Pathom studio while returning to his alma mater as a part-time sculpture teacher.

That dialogue between inheritance and discovery runs through his work. Drawing on classical Western sculpture, traditional Thai art and East Asian mythology, Vayupad creates figurative pieces that balance anatomical realism with idealised form. Heritage, in his hands, is not something to preserve unchanged, but a visual language capable of evolving through contemporary practice.

His sculptures have been exhibited in galleries and art festivals across Thailand and internationally, introducing contemporary audiences to new interpretations of Thai artistic heritage. Teaching extends that purpose, allowing him to pass on technical knowledge while encouraging younger artists to develop perspectives of their own.

For Vayupad, continuity is not repetition. By combining rigorous craftsmanship with influences spanning cultures and eras, he is giving sculptural tradition fresh possibilities for the future.
