Last week, Thailand’s tuk tuks revved their way into the global spotlight, headlining the PT Grand Prix of Thailand 2026 at Chang International Circuit.
Instead of the routine lap, pro riders kicked the action into overdrive with a full-throttle tuk tuk takeover, zipping past the stands with pure Thai-style swagger and popping gravity-defying wheelies that had fans in stitches.
By staging its first Tuk Tuk Challenge, MotoGP proved it’s not afraid to switch gears. Beyond the jokes, the stunt has put Thai soft power in the fast lane, drawing attention to the country’s wilder, fun-loving side.
It also shows how culture, albeit rooted in a specific place, can easily transcend national boundaries, a reminder that while racing is universal, it is culture that is actually the most powerful connector.
A total of 22 riders took part in the three-wheeled spectacle, including big names like Marc Márquez, Francesco Bagnaia, Fabio Quartararo, Joan Mir, and Jorge Martín. Split into 11 teams, each tuk tuk carried a pair, with some turning up the theatrics by balancing on the back.
It was Jack Miller and teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu of Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP who sealed the win, crossing the finish line with razzmatazz, thanks in no small part to completely unnecessary but totally magnificent wheelies, of course.
