The American rock band The Strokes will be making their long-awaited performance debut in Bangkok at Thunderdome, Muang Thong Thani on July 18.
Formed in New York City in 1998, the band is made up of singer and songwriter Julian Casablancas, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr, bassist Nikolai Fraiture, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti. The Strokes secured their place as one of the most influential bands of the early 21st century with their acclaimed debut album Is This It in 2001—which earned them tremendous respect in the alternative music scene— carrying through to their sixth and latest Grammy-winning studio album The New Abnormal.
The band’s sound has been described variously as indie rock, garage rock revival, and post-punk revival by media outlets. Rock and roll, fashion, and pop culture author Lizzy Goodman said in her book on the New York City music scene Meet Me in the Bathroom 2017, “The Strokes are as influential to their era as the Velvet Underground or the Ramones were to theirs.” They have also heavily influenced bands like The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, and Franz Ferdinand.
The Strokes Live in Bangkok 2023 will take place at Thunder Dome, Muang Thong Thani on July 18. Ticket prices start from 3,000 baht. Tickets go on presale on April 19 and public sale on April 20, 10am onwards via ticketmelon.com.
