An advocate for animal rights for seven years, Billie Eilish recently revealed that she has paired up with Nike to create two pairs of vegan Air Jordan sneakers: an Air Jordan 15 in beige and a lime-green pair of Air Jordan 1KO. Launched on September 27, not only are the sneakers vegan, over 20% of the shoes are also made from recycled materials. Billie fans and sneakerheads are sure to appreciate the classic Nike fit, the singer’s “Blohsh” logo on the shoe’s tongue, as well as the contemporary monochrome colors.
Adding to the buzz, the pop sensation unveiled a behind-the-scenes series with Nike explaining how she and the brand designed these sustainable shoes.
“They’re gender-neutral, which I really love,” says Billie. “You can be whoever and whatever you want with these, and with any shoe because that’s your right and that’s always something that I would talk about with my shoes.”
She continued, “I’ve always loved Jordan and it was such a crazy, surreal, exciting, overwhelming experience to create these and the big part of that is the sustainability aspect. They’re over 20% recycled material which is so dope to me. You can make cool s*** and you don’t have to be wasteful.”
Eilish is swiftly making a name for herself as an activist in the entertainment industry and its often frivolous rituals. She recently made an appearance at the Met Gala in Oscar de la Renta on the condition that the luxury fashion label would commit to going fur-free for good.
