Drag Queen

Industry : Advocacy

Winning RuPaul’s Drag Race UK vs The World Season 3 made Tharathep “Gawdland” Thaweephon the competition’s first Thai champion. For the creative director and performer, however, the title is less an endpoint than a platform – one from which Thai drag, creativity and queer perspectives can command greater international attention.

Gawdland sees drag as both personal expression and collective advocacy. Her work spans fashion, music, media, performance and civic engagement, using visibility to challenge ingrained perceptions while championing diversity, empowerment and inclusion. At its heart is a conviction that individual progress carries greater meaning when it creates space for others.

That belief also shapes how she views representation. Rather than separating her achievements from the wider LGBTQIA+ community, Gawdland connects them directly, presenting Thailand’s distinctive creative identity to global audiences while seeking to broaden ideas around gender and culture.

Behind the confidence of performance lies a more reflective understanding of what progress requires. Gawdland speaks openly of resilience in overcoming self-doubt, but equally recognises that structural change cannot be accomplished alone. Community building is therefore central to her ambitions.

By making her own path visible, she hopes others can more readily imagine theirs. The crown may have amplified Gawdland’s voice; what matters now is how widely that opportunity can resonate.
