When the 120-year-old Arthorn Suksa School in Charoen Krung eventually closed its doors three years ago, the Attakanwong family stepped in to create ATT 19, a multidisciplinary retail, events and contemporary space offering F&B outlets. The project is spearheaded by Porntip Attakanwong and is seen as a successful regeneration of heritage buildings. The aim for Porntip is to position ATT19 as one of the city’s top contemporary art galleries and retail spaces. “Our mission is to provide new experiences and education to Thai and international audiences through art and design,” she says. “As a gallery, we especially support emerging, young, underprivileged and overlooked talents.” Curator at ATT 19 as well as its creative director, the graduate of New York’s Parsons New School of Design is adamant about making art a valuable platform for education, thereby contributing to a shift in the artistic conversation in the country.
