Neurologist, Researcher & Co-founder, Smile Migraine
Industry : Science
For Surat Tanprawate, treating migraine extends well beyond what happens in the consulting room. A neurologist and headache specialist at Chiang Mai University, he brings together clinical practice, research, education and technology to improve how the condition is understood and managed in Thailand.
That broader view led him to co-found health-tech start-up Smile Migraine. Designed to support patients between medical appointments, its tools allow users to monitor symptoms, recognise potential triggers and develop healthier daily habits. AI-based environmental alerts add another layer of personalised information, while teleconsultation services under development aim to extend access to specialist care.
Surat’s work also reaches deep into research and professional collaboration. He founded the Chiang Mai University Headache Study Group and serves as president of the Headache Study Group of the Neurological Society of Thailand, placing him at the intersection of patient care and the continuing development of migraine medicine.
Education completes the picture. Through public-facing content on migraine and brain health, he translates neurological knowledge into practical information people can use in everyday life.
The connecting idea is straightforward: better migraine care requires more than intervention when symptoms strike. By combining medical expertise with prevention, education and digital tools, Surat is helping move neurological care towards a model that is more informed, accessible and centred on the patient.
