Ever wanted someone to call you by their name, but in a slightly more suggestive way than Elio and Oliver ever managed?

Well, you can discuss all your inner fantasies with fellow romance aficionados at Call Me by Your Thirst: An Adult Bookclub, brought to you by Shortshorts, hosted on the open-air rooftop of 6th.Fl Bangkok, on 2 September, running from 6.30pm until 8pm.

The springboard is André Aciman’s acclaimed 2007 novel Call Me by Your Name, famously adapted by Luca Guadagnino starring Timothée Chalamet as the painfully sensitive Elio. But don’t stress if the sun-drenched Italian setting is unfamiliar; there is absolutely no homework required for this one. The conversation will focus on the relationship between language and desire, looking at how the body registers pure heat, even when it’s just ink on paper.

Joining the fun is internationally renowned Thai-Chinese author Pim Wangtechawat, whose 2023 debut The Moon Represents My Heart first put her on the map, and whose latest release I Dream of You is cementing her status as a rising literary star writing in English. Nothing tops getting hot takes and literary insights directly from someone actively shaping the field.

Again, no pre-reading is required. Just bring your best book-curious self for some deep, if not sensuous, conversation from 6.30pm–8pm on the rooftop of 6th.Fl Bangkok (Phrom Phong BTS Exit 4, through Ebisu Shoten Izakaya and up the lift at the back). Tickets are THB 150 including one non-alcoholic drink. Grab your spot via the link on their Instagram page.
