The 16 year old Thai rocker wins America’s Got Talent with “Seven Nation Army”, wearing Bangkok’s Ban Krua silk as she puts Thai talent on the world stage.

Thai singer and guitarist Nene Royal, 16, has been crowned the winner of America’s Got Talent Season 21, making history as the first Thai artist to take home the title.

Born in Phuket, Nene made her mark throughout the competition with her powerful vocals and guitar playing. After earning Mel B’s Live Golden Buzzer for her performance of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun”, she went straight through to the grand final alongside nine other finalists.

For her final performance, Nene took on The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army”, giving the 2000s rock classic her own heavier take and adding a fresh guitar solo. The performance brought the audience to its feet, with guest judge KSI praising her performance, while Mel B, Sofía Vergara and Howie Mandel all highlighted what made the young rocker stand out.

Nene’s Thai identity was also front and centre. For the final, she wore a vivid red outfit created under the concept “Rock Strong, Red Commander”, inspired by an idea from her mother. The look combines structured shoulders, leather, chains and metal details with handwoven Ban Krua silk, bringing Thai craftsmanship into a contemporary rock look.

The silk comes from the Ban Krua community beside Khlong Saen Saep in Bangkok, a historic Cham Muslim community known for its weaving tradition. Here, Thai silk is given a new setting, paired with the attitude of rock fashion and completed with Dr. Martens boots.

The result is more than a stage outfit. It puts a piece of Bangkok’s textile heritage on one of the world’s biggest talent shows, while Nene carries the story of Thailand with her as a young artist performing on an international stage.

From Phuket to the America’s Got Talent stage, Nene Royal has now made her dream of becoming a touring rock star part of Thai music history.

And she is taking the title home.
