Here it is again, Songkran. You can stay home and relax, escape the heat by going abroad or head out and get soaked. What’s yours?
Songkran brings out different sides of everyone. Some go all in on the water fights, others keep it close to tradition. To see how it plays out among familiar faces, we asked 20 celebrities to choose between two simple options. The result is a mix of playful, practical and personal takes on Thailand’s most lively holiday.
Across all 20 answers, there is no single way to do Songkran. Some start with temples, some head straight into the water fights. Some stay home, others take over the streets. Together, these choices bring out what the holiday does best, giving everyone space to celebrate in their own way.
For Nantanat “Natty” Thakadkul and Apichaya “Dream” Phanichtrakool, the choice between water gun or bucket lands firmly on the bucket side. They are clearly not here for anything less than a full splash.
When it comes to style, Benyapa “View” Jeenprasom and Rebecca “Becky” Patricia Armstrong both lean towards Thai traditional dress over floral shirts, keeping the cultural element front and centre.
Duration matters too. Maylada “Bow” Susri is in for the full three days of Songkran, while Pongtiwat “Blue” Tangwancharoen prefers one intense day and calling it done.
Cooling off gets a unanimous answer from some. Suppasit “Mew” Jongcheveevat, Yuke “Son” Songpaisan and Jackrin “Jackie” Kungwankiatichai all go for ice water over normal water. Jackie adds another layer, choosing staying home over going out, proving Songkran does not always have to mean crowds.
For location, Natachai “Dunk” Boonprasert and Archen “Joong” Aydin pick Silom over Khao San Road, favouring one of Bangkok’s busiest festival strips.
Balance between tradition and fun shows up clearly. Jumpol “Off” Adulkittiporn chooses to go back home first, with both rod nam dam hua and a full water war later. He is doing both, just in the right order. Thasorn “Emi” Klinnium goes straight for a full water war but still puts temple visits first.
Practical choices come into play as well. Sarocha “Freen” Chankimha opts for a waterproof phone pouch, while Poompat “Up” Iam-samang keeps things friendly by splashing only friends.
Some keep it local. Gorn Wannapairote prefers a neighbourhood street over a big tourist hotspot. Smaller, familiar and just as fun. Bhumibhat “Aelm” Thavornsiri goes for a pickup truck splash rather than a street station. A classic for a reason.
Footwear, or lack of it, splits opinions. Naran “Nay” Vikairungroj is happy going barefoot in the street, while Krittin Sosungnoen sticks with wet sandals.
Finally, Phuwin Tangsakyuen rounds things off by choosing a water gun over a bucket. A bit more control, but still very much in the game.
