Embracing her new role as Amazing Thailand Ambassador, Lalisa “Lisa” Manobal literally amazed fans the world over in a bespoke Balmain Haute Couture gown, ushering in an exciting era for both the tourism industry and her journey as a fashion icon.
The gold-coloured bustier dress, embroidered with luminous patterns and bedecked with a train, is an homage to the famous evening gown Nuit à Londres, designed by Pierre Balmain as part of his Haute Couture Spring Summer 1960 collection.
The dress was later reworked for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who introduced shoulder straps to the original design, with the addition of red and gold brocade and chartreuse Thai silk. Since then, Pierre Balmain had personally designed Her Majesty’s wardrobe for over two decades.
One of our writers at Koktail Magazine has previously highlighted Her Majesty’s distinctive fashion sense. See the article here.
Yesterday’s reveal of the couture piece worn by Lisa marked the 170th anniversary of Thai-French relations. High fashion seems to be no longer just about grandeur and self-expression; it is also about cultural diplomacy and, in Lisa’s case, representing one’s country at the global stage.
BVLGARI jewellery and a Jasmina clutch bag enhance the overall elegance, while smooth Duchesse satin lends Lisa’s skin a majestic glow, set against a softly contoured backdrop.
