The Secret of Us is Abrams’s second studio album, dropped in 2024. Self-produced by Abrams herself alongside Aaron Dessner of The National, the album blends pop, country-pop, indie, and folk sounds. Abrams penned most of the tracks with Dessner and her long-time collaborator Audrey Hobert.
Many people might be bothered over Thailand’s scorching April weather, but not Gracie Abrams. Touching down on the 18th, just after Songkran wrapped up, the singer missed Thailand’s legendary water festival but still found plenty to love about Bangkok’s tropical climate.
“Actually, I’ll try to walk around, the weather’s been good,” Abrams shared.
While most of us Thais sweat it out in this relentless heat, the California native seems to be breezing through Bangkok during her debut visit.
Gracie Abrams didn’t hesitate when asked about her favourite Thai dish.
“Gotta be Pad Thai!” she answered.
Fun fact: Abrams actually features on Pad Thai, the debut single by New York City DJ TJANI, where she’s credited simply as “Gracie”.
Her fans have established a charming tradition of baking cakes for each of Abrams’ releases, knowing her own passion for baking. When asked what cake represents her current album, Abrams grew visibly moved by her fans’ attention to detail.
“Probably like eating frosting straight from the tub,” she laughed.
“Or maybe a lemon zest cake, if I’m really thinking about it… but yeah, tub frosting. That’s the vibe!”
Abrams paused, then said, “It’s a rom-com!”
When the crowd jokingly questioned if it might be horror, she excitedly quipped back, “Yes, it’s a horror movie actually … and a rom-com too… so poetic!” She laughed with us.
Smiling mischievously, Abrams revealed the origins of the album’s standout pop track That’s So True.
“Actually, I was drunk with Audrey when I wrote the song.” She was referring to Audrey Hobert, her longtime co-writer and close friend.
The song captures a no-frills moment of a tipsy girl processing pain with unexpected humour.
“I was crying from laughing while I was writing it,” Abrams shared.
She also whispered a hot tip into the mic: keep an eye out for Audrey Hobert’s upcoming music. “You won’t be disappointed,” she promised. You heard it here first!
We all know about Gracie Abrams and Taylor Swift’s friendship and their collaborations, including Us on this album.
One thing Abrams shared with us is something she picked up from Swift: the idea that it feels personal to give each crowd their own song. Just one stage, one moment, one special choice.
“I’ve learned so many things from Taylor, and one of them is to have a surprise song for each city.”
Abrams stood before us, pouring out gratitude as the tour’s Asia leg came to a close.
“I know I’ve said this a million times, but I love you all so much. I’m beyond grateful for every second of your support. It means the world to me, and I feel it all the time. I can’t believe I finally get to meet you all and say thank you directly to your faces. I’m so grateful. This is our last show here, and it means so much. Of course, we’ll try to come back as soon as humanly possible. Thank you so much!”
