Conan Gray, AKA the “pop prince for sad internet teens”, will be performing in Bangkok for the first time next year. The American singer-songwriter has announced his Superache Asia 2023 Tour and will be visiting seven Asian cities: Osaka, Yokohama, Manila, Singapore, Bangkok, Taipei, and Seoul. The concert will take place at Impact Exhibition Hall 5, Muang Thong Thani, on February 22, 2023.
As a teenager, Gray started uploading vlogs and covers to YouTube. His first debut EP Sunset Season gained over 300 million streams in 2018. Two years later, his first studio album Kid Krow reached number 5 on Billboard 200, making him the biggest new artist in the US at the time. “Maniac”, his breakthrough single, has amassed over 100 million streams on Spotify and has been certified Platinum in Australia and Gold in the US and Canada.
Conan has shared that Kid Krow is a coming-of-age record inspired by his rough childhood experiences of poverty, abuse, and discrimination. He once told Teen Vogue that growing up as a mixed race child—American/Japanese—in Texas has affected who he is as a person, noting that he had felt that he didn’t really belong anywhere.
A follow-up to the first album, Superache is described by Gray as an expansion of his yearning heartbreak, touching on themes of childhood trauma, abuse, friendship, and love. A mixture of dance-pop, synth, and indie, Superache was introduced with the singles “Astronomy”, “People Watching”, “Jigsaw”, “Memories”, and “Yours”, while standalone singles “Overdrive” and “Telepath” were included as bonus tracks on the Japanese edition. The album received critical acclaim and debuted within the top 10 in the US, UK, Australia, Ireland, and the Netherlands.
Tickets to Superache Asia 2023 Tour Bangkok concert start at 1,500 baht and will go on presale November 24 and public sale the following day, 10am onwards via thaiticketmajor.com.
