Following the 2023 edition of the annual survey by Resonance, the world’s top 100 urban destinations to live, work, and invest in have been revealed. The rankings reflect an array of factors, from employment levels to cultural diversity. They were grouped into six core categories, including Place, People, Programming, Product, Prosperity, and Promotion. With a goal to make “Best Cities” the most credible source of city performance in the eyes of visitors, investors, and residents alike, here are the results:
Renowned for its luxurious properties and architecture, London grabbed the number one spot—for the seventh year running. The city topped classifications like employment rates and post-pandemic recovery. The report also stated that London attracts huge investments—another element that helped it gain its top spot.
Paris, the so-called city of love, came in second on the list thanks to the city’s relentless pursuit of human-centred infrastructure. As Paris prepares for the 2024 Olympics, a handful of new hotels have been added to the artistic city along with hundreds of kilometres of bike paths and more pedestrianised spaces in all areas.
Third on the list is the Big Apple: New York City. The metropolis is doing everything in its power to bring back “not only apprehensive New Yorkers whose hunger for regular bites of the Big Apple has for two years been sated instead by takeout or delivery, but also the nearly 70 million people who visited in 2019 and invested $46 billion across its expansive quilt of Sights & Landmarks (ranked #13 globally),” according to the report.
The list awarded Kyiv the title of “honorary best city”, heaping praise on the Ukrainian capital for its resilience throughout Russia’s invasion. The city was also commended for its restaurant scene, nightlife, and history.
