Founder and Creative Director, Takara Wong
Industry : The Arts
Thakorn “Champ” Wannawong looks beyond fashion’s mainstream for the ideas that give clothing its edge. Music, youth movements and alternative communities form the cultural vocabulary of Takara Wong, the Bangkok-based label he founded in 2015.
Champ’s interest in fashion began early and developed through his studies at Bunka Fashion Academy in Thailand. Yet it was his engagement with music and subcultures that gave the label its defining perspective. Rather than following the rhythm of seasonal convention, he translates the attitudes of these scenes into a contemporary wardrobe with an identity of its own.
As founder and creative director, Champ begins with recognisable silhouettes before disrupting expectations through construction, textiles and finishing. Strong proportions and precise cutting allow fabric and technique to deliver much of the visual impact, creating pieces that feel considered without becoming restrained.
Presented as a unisex label, Takara Wong maintains a deliberate tension between control and provocation. Its references to outsiders and unconventional communities are not decorative gestures or passing trends, but an enduring source of creative direction. The resulting collections carry attitude without depending on spectacle.
Through this disciplined exploration of the alternative, Champ has established a distinctive position within Thailand’s fashion landscape. His work recognises that subcultures do more than challenge prevailing taste: they generate the ideas, identities and visual languages that eventually reshape it.
