Miss Gay America 2020

Industry : The Arts

New York-based Plu, aka Pattaya Hart, aka Methawee Sayapol is thrilled to have been crowned Miss Gay America 2020, becoming the first non-American to hold the title in the process. He is also the first drag queen to be featured in a national ad campaign—in Pantene’s #DontHateMeCauseImBeautifulcampaign (World Pride commercial aired in June 2019). Plu teaches dance in New York, performs around the city and regularly tours the US. He hopes to create awareness and acceptance, particularly in Asia, of drag as a creative and interactive art form that pushes boundaries and make differences. Like the subject of his favourite musical, Man of La Mancha, he has continued to pursue his dreams even when other people thought he was crazy, and he hopes to inspire Asians (especially Thais) to follow their hearts, not be afraid to make a career switch and work hard to attain success, just as he did when he uprooted himself to America to pursue the American dream. He says he will continue to travel the world performing, maintain his volunteer work and work harder as an advocate for aspiring performers and LGBTQ youth.
