Chudaree Debhakam’s culinary training at prestigious institutions in the UK and US may have given her the edge to win the first season of Top Chef Thailand in 2017, as the competition’s youngest chef, but that was only the beginning of her illustrious career. Still shy of 30, “Chef Tam” has opened Baan Tepa, an award-winning intimate produce-driven dining experience on the grounds of her family home. Baan Tepa consists of a communal dining table that seats 12, an open kitchen, and a garden where ingredients that will be used in the dinner are cultivated. Chef Tam’s vision for the project was to give diners a view of exactly where their food comes from and how it is prepared and to connect them through this story. As for her creations, Chef Tam describes her style as “Thai food but from a modern perspective”. Her aim is to show both Thai and international diners the endless possibilities for Thai cuisine and its ingredients.
