Arin Rungjang is known for deftly revisiting historical material in his work, overlapping major and minor narratives across multiple times, places and languages. As an independent artist he manifests his work through different mediums and often uses video in site-specific installations. His pieces have covered a broad range of subjects including Thai migrant workers in Germany, a stateless man who was born in Myanmar and trafficked to Thailand and the lives of those who identify as transgender. This year the artist was named a Silpathorn Award laureate in visual arts by Thailand’s Office of Contemporary Arts and Culture under the Ministry of Culture. Arin represented Thailand at the 55th Venice Biennale and has exhibited his work as a solo artist in Shanghai, Paris, Sydney and Toronto.
