From November 2022, the Italian fashion house will begin rolling out its new Certificate of Craft, a lifetime warranty program. The service will offer unlimited complimentary refreshes and repairs for any Bottega Veneta handbag. The brand claims the program was born out of a desire to offer clients long-term preservation of their products. 

Industry-wide, product life spans are getting shorter, which raises environmental concerns. In the past, the mending mindset was the norm—mainly because things were more expensive. As technology gets better, things become cheaper, and it’s much easier to replace products with a new one than to go to the trouble of repairing them. However, according to Deloittes’ Sustainable Consumer 2022 report, there has been an increase in the number of people repairing goods instead of replacing them with a new purchase. 

The Certificate of Craft program encourages responsible shopping habits, like purchasing high-quality items rather than fast fashion pieces that don’t even last a year. Apart from the program being sustainable, it’s also exciting for handbag connoisseurs. The house has always designed goods to last—this just proves the brand’s commitment to their own high standards. Traditionally, family heirlooms have been items like watches and jewelry. Now, Bottega wants you to hand down your handbag too.

Sadly, the Certificate of Craft program only applies to new purchases. After a purchase, each bag will be accompanied by a physical and digital card with a serial number corresponding to the bag, which can be used for authentication and for the forever warranty.
