Back at Aromkwan, Chef Vishu “Bank” Bernard fires up the grills with signature sugar cane husk-smoked meats, pork biryani and sambal fish
After bouncing back from a fractured clavicle and launching the hit Isaan joint Jae Bank earlier this year, Chef Vishu “Bank” Bernard has returned to Aromkwan. Proclaiming he is “back with a crack” – the signature sound of his cleaver slicing through sugar cane husk-smoked pig – Chef Bank is reopening his most labour-heavy venture. Expect powerhouse dishes ranging from signature smoked pork knuckle biryani to banana leaf-wrapped sambal grilled fish. Find them at No. 2, Onnut 34, Sukhumvit 77, open for lunch from 11 am onwards and dinner from 6 pm onwards.
The first rule of… wait, Bartender Fight Vol.2 returns on 30 August with 11 matches and two drinks for THB 1,500 (general) or THB 1,200 (industry)
It is not often you get to see bartenders beat each other up. No, not figuratively as in with drinks, but with punches (again, nothing to do with the drink). Bartender Fight lands at Bar335 on 30 August for Vol.2, gathering bartenders from across Asia to duke it out across 11 physical matches. The first bout rings in at 9.30 pm, with the final showdown slated for 11.25 pm. But this wouldn’t be in our Kulinary Kurrent if they didn’t serve drinks: tickets are THB 1,500 (THB 1,200 for hospitality-industry folk) and include two drinks to keep your heart rate up. Grab yours via @bar335bkk on Instagram or Line OA.

Upward of 1,000 Angkalung bamboo tubes replace the old 400, reshaping the giant canopy around nature’s Fibonacci Spiral pattern
Tichuca reopened on 14 August after its biggest renovation since launching in 2020. The rooftop has been reworked around Thai materials, craftsmanship, art, music, food and design, with timber from the original space turned into furniture and used plastic given a second life. Same Tichuca spirit, just with considerably more going on.
