Wander through Bangkok’s literary past at the Bangkok Book District Fest, returning to Phra Nakhon on 25-26 July.

Ditch the reading nook for Phra Nakhon this 25-26 July. The Bangkok Book District Fest is back for its second edition, celebrating the cradle of Thai literature with an all-out urban exploration.

It is time to read between the lines of the city. Get ready to wander through centuries of publishing history tucked away in Phan Fa, Wang Burapha, Fuang Nakhon, Sao Chingcha (Giant Swing), Tha Tien and Nang Loeng.

‘Book District’ isn’t just a clever title. Phra Nakhon was Bangkok’s original publishing capital, launching journalists-turned-novelists like Kulap Saipradit and ‘Rong Wongsawan. Swing by legendary local spots like Suksit Siam or the vintage shops of Wang Burapha today and you’re stepping right into their shoes.

The festival’s first run packed the old town with rare-book hunting. Most memorable was Reading in the Park. Fresh off its successful stint at Bangkok Design Week earlier this year, the project returns to turn Rommaninat Park’s lawns into an open-air living room for book lovers.

To read Phra Nakhon, you have to walk it. The upcoming festival lets you trace history on the walls, breathe the old-town air that inspired literary greats and explore a network of local bookshops rich in community lore.

Keep your eyes peeled on bkk.bookdistrict (Instagram) and BKK BOOK District (Facebook) for updates before the festival hits the streets of Phra Nakhon this July 25–26.
