Discover seven Italian restaurants in Bangkok that reward repeat visits, spanning Tuscany to Emilia-Romagna, and proving that Italian food is never a one-time experience.

You can never really get enough of Italian food. At first glance, its simple presentation – pizza, pasta or even desserts like gelato – can seem almost deceptive, but beneath that simplicity lies a world of variation and technique that can be endlessly reworked into something even more delicious.

In this edition of Koktail Kuisine, we return to Italian dining with seven standout restaurants across the city. From the flavours of Tuscany to Emilia-Romagna, and from long-established favourites to contemporary, stylish newcomers, these are places serving Italian food so good they’ll keep you coming back for more.

Gianni Ristorante

Opened in 1996 and now on the verge of turning 30, Gianni Ristorante retains its dedication to Italian authenticity even after relocating to Plaza Athénée on Wireless Road. Shaped by the culinary experience of Master Chef Gianni Favro, the menu is centred around fresh ingredients and “the harmony of thinking and ideas”. Begin strong with pappa al pomodoro, a tomato-and-bread soup with burrata and crostini. To keep the Tuscan flavours going, move on to the ricotta and spinach ravioli topped with parmesan and wild edible flowers – beautiful and delicious. A wine pairing is a must, with over 500 Italian labels waiting to be explored.

Giglio Trattoria Fiorentina

While Giglio Trattoria Fiorentina keeps the relaxed, homely feel typical of a trattoria, its Tuscan focus adds a layer of depth that makes the simplicity feel more nuanced. The white façade reflects this pared-back approach and once inside, olive-green furnishings and photographs on the walls trace its connection to Florence and its origins. Cavolo nero e farro brings together kale and nutty spelt, with briny olives adding a salty contrast that makes for a memorable starter.  Pici pasta with sausage and porcini mushroom ragù stands out as a highlight, with sauce-coated pasta slipping into the mouth quickly, slightly bouncy in texture.

La Casa Nostra

Italian for “our home,” La Casa Nostra welcomes guests as if they were part of the family. Chef Nino Scognamillo brings his Sicilian touch to craft some of the finest southern Italian dishes in Bangkok. The menu highlights seafood and only someone as familiar with the ingredients as the chef knows how to prepare it well. Among the standouts, Mediterranean octopus is cooked until soft and paired with a smooth white truffle potato velouté, full of deep, aromatic truffle notes. Conchiglioni burro e alici delivers layered contrast: shell pasta coated in butter and anchovies, tempered by thick tomato compote.

Lenzi Tuscan Kitchen

You would be hard-pressed to find a more Tuscan-focused restaurant than Lenzi. Operated by Executive Chef and owner Francesco Lenzi, the restaurant promises diners an escape to Tuscany without ever having to leave Bangkok. In part, this is because they fly in ingredients from Italy. Homemade ravioli filled with French foie gras and ricotta comes in a truffle emulsion with strawberry sauce. The standout, though, is Lenzi’s spaghetti with garlic, chilli, pork belly and tiger prawn, topped with a slice of blood pudding ham. The prawn and pork belly work in tandem, lifted by garlic, while the ham adds an unexpected textural bite.

Opus

Contemporary Italian defines Opus, beginning with a black awning and a flash of deep pink flowers spilling from the roof. The mood continues inside, where a wine bar practically calls for a glass of prosecco on arrival. Under Chef Lorenzo Ghezzani, the kitchen reworks familiar ideas with ease: white anchovies marinated and served with artichoke hearts and black truffle feel deeply satisfying, while duck breast with pomegranate sauce is structured yet generously coated. For dessert, choose the classic tiramisu – a sweet, traditional way to close the evening. The food and wine are equally strong and naturally go hand in hand.

Scarletta Pasta Bar

Located inside BLOQyard on Silom Road, Scarletta makes its focus clear from the name: artisan pasta. Few places in Bangkok zoom in on a single strand of Italian cuisine with this level of precision. The meal begins simply with slices of cured meat and cheese, followed by a fresh salad tossed in Italian dressing. But pasta is the reason to be here. Mushroom and truffle tortellini is deeply aromatic with earthy notes and a light creaminess, while squid ink paccheri brings a briny, herbal edge with hints of the sea. To finish, panna cotta with berries adds a bright, fruity lift.

Via Emilia

Named after Via Aemilia, the historic Roman road that crosses Emilia-Romagna, the osteria brings a piece of northern Italy to Naradhiwas. With a captivating trompe-l’œil mural adorning its façade, it offers cuisine rooted deeply in northern Italian tradition. Tortelli ricotta e spinaci features ravioli filled with ricotta and spinach, finished in a delicate butter and sage sauce. Costolette d’agnello impanate, pan-fried lamb chops, have an excellent crisp, served alongside salad and rosemary-infused potatoes. Be sure to order the Aperol spritz – bright, zesty and refreshing.
