Bangkok Pride is back! Mark your calendars for 31 May, when the 4.8-kilometre parade starts at Chong Nonsi Canal Park, takes over Silom in a vibrant burst of rainbow colour and heads towards Rama 1. The route shifts from past editions that began at the National Stadium, while still capturing the fierce spirit of LGBTQ+ culture at the heart of Bangkok.
Naruemit Pride is raising the bar for Pride this year, with a 300-metre rainbow flag that’s bigger than the previous one and impossible to miss. Add in drag shows and performances hosted by Yellow Channel, and you’ve got a full-on celebration of the creativity and sheer fabulousness of the Thai drag scene.
You can also catch mor lam ensemble Rabiab Wathasin at Suphachalasai Stadium’s Pride Stage, performing mor lam songs that speak to the journey and struggles of the LGBTQ+ community here in Thailand. It’s a way to better understand the experiences of LGBTQ+ people, the obstacles they face and the grit it takes to overcome them.
The organisers are going all out on Pride this year, pulling together festivals and events across the city to showcase Bangkok at its most colourful and vibrant. Their ultimate goal? A bid to host World Pride 2030, to be decided at the International Pride Conference in Phuket this October, competing with strong contenders like Barcelona and London.
