Bangkok Planetarium’s “To the New Legacy” event will be held on 28 March, celebrating the science centre’s history before it enters an extended closure expected to last until around the end of the year.

Space lovers, this is your last call! Bangkok Planetarium will close for a major eight-month revamp from 30 March, but not before one final night of cosmic fun.

On 28 March, the beloved science centre will host a special programme featuring star talks, live music, DIY workshops, food trucks and exclusive screenings. It’s a send-off party for the stars before the planetarium blasts off into its next phase.

Visitors will also get the chance to learn more about the Carl Zeiss Mark IV, the classic star projector that has long illuminated the dome at Bangkok Planetarium. Expect a range of activities where you can pick up souvenirs, snap photos and make memories to take home.

For a taste of the real universe, the Thai Astronomical Society will also set up telescopes for live stargazing. The real stars are unbeatable, but let’s be real, the projector still does a pretty stellar job.

A three-generation lineup will take the stage for the star talk panel, sharing stories, perspectives, and the inspiration they’ve drawn from Bangkok Planetarium. The lineup includes:

  • Professor Sittichai Chantarasilpin, an astronomical expert
  • Kornthong Wiriyasawetkul, a space influencer and journalist
  • Natcha Kessornbua, a student researcher at Bangkok Planetarium

More than just a place for learning, though, Bangkok Planetarium has long doubled as a place for the exploration of intimate feelings – something many a Bangkok romantic knows by heart.

There’s just something so lovely about stargazing with someone you like, and the fact that the constellations are animated hardly dulls the mood.

Sitting side by side in the dark, you and your date might find yourselves reflecting on how the vast distance between you and the stars mirrors the unspoken space between your feelings. It’s firmly up there as one of Bangkok’s most charming date spots.
