Italian dining in Bangkok has grown into a mix of styles, with chefs bringing their own versions of Italy to the city. From Roman trattorias and Sardinian fine dining to modern seafood and high-rise spots, the scene is varied but focused, built on exceptional ingredients and clear identity.

This edition of Koktail Kuisine highlights six of the best Italian restaurants in Bangkok, each with its own clear character. Together, these restaurants reflect how the city interprets Italian dining today, each staying true to its own style while offering a distinct take on Italian food.

Acqua

Bringing together Sardinian heritage and contemporary Italian cooking, Acqua in Bangkok presents fine dining built on ingredients from across Italy, France, Spain and Japan. Go for Sicilian red prawn and amaebi crudo, which is sweet and ocean-fresh, layered with smoked mozzarella, fish roe and sea urchin sauce. Wine pairings make a nice combo, specifically Sardinian and Italian labels.

Appia Trattoria

Tucked into Sukhumvit, Appia Trattoria brings the character of a Roman trattoria to Bangkok, where Chef Paolo Vitaletti has created a straightforward, faithful interpretation of Roman dining, inviting diners to enjoy themselves over delicious food and wine. The highlights are house-made pastas such as cacio e pepe and cavatelli with lamb ragout, tender porchetta with crackling skin and a chicken liver pâté made in the traditional style.

Bella Sera

Bella Sera, located on the second floor of Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, serves home-style Italian cooking in a relaxed setting, where Head Chef Fabio Colautti draws inspiration from his mother’s recipes under the “Cucina di Mama Mia” concept. Their signature Bella Sera pizza is topped with peeled tomatoes, mozzarella, mushrooms, sausage and black truffle, set on a 48-hour fermented dough made from Italian flour and spelt.

Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, Sukhumvit Rd, Bangkok. Tel: +66 2 126 9999. Open daily from 12pm-3pm and from 5pm-10pm.

Cannubi by Umberto Bombana

Located in the Dusit Thani Hotel, it features marble and wood interiors with wine-toned accents, overlooking a waterfall-adorned garden. Menu highlights include homemade chitarra pasta with Alpine cheese fondue and black truffle, Brittany blue lobster with calamari and clams in fennel confit and lobster bisque and M5 short rib with beef tenderloin. Chef Bombana’s influence is evident in every dish, reflected in the precision, balance and clarity.

Casa Lenzi

Lenzi in Bangkok is a fine dining restaurant by Francesco Lenzi, where Chef Stefano and his team take a more relaxed approach to Italian home cooking, using premium European ingredients flown in weekly just for the restaurant. Asparagi bianchi features grilled white asparagus with taleggio cheese fondue, parmigiano sabayon and olive powder, alongside the Queen Wellington of Spanish langoustine and carabinero tail with foie gras and kale in baked puff pastry.

Embassy Room La Marina

On the 9th floor of Park Hyatt Bangkok, Chef Daniele Ferrari presents a refined southern Italian seafood-focused menu, served in a space with an open kitchen and outdoor seating overlooking the sky garden. The menu draws on Catalan influences and is built around fresh, seasonal ingredients. Signature dishes include La Marina pizza with tomato, fiordilatte mozzarella, capers, anchovies, Taggiasca olives, extra virgin olive oil and dried oregano.
