Public Spaces You Can Book in Bangkok with BMA

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) simplifies venue booking with Public Space, a one-stop platform for reserving public venues.

Ever tried figuring out how to rent a venue in Bangkok and ended up drowning in paperwork questions? In theory, public space belongs to everyone, so booking a spot shouldn’t feel like solving a bureaucratic puzzle. Because if the city belongs to its people (and if said people truly live in a democracy), accessing its venues shouldn’t be that complicated a process to begin with.

Good news: the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has made things simpler with Public Space, a platform for booking public venues that employs an easy-to-use interface that actually makes sense to ordinary people. The process has been simplified so you don’t have to jump through pointless hoops or second-guess how things work.

With over 120 spots available, the website serves as a one-stop platform packed with detailed information, concise descriptions and photos of each location. These resources help you get a better sense of each venue, so you can decide for yourself which best fits your intended purpose.

What kinds of events are allowed at these locations?

This depends on the venue. The available options may include activity organisation, busking (street music performance), and film production. Some venues support all of these, while others allow only one or two. All the venues are sorted into categories, ranging from public parks to multi-purpose stadiums.

Each venue listed on the platform includes information on permitted activities, space usage, capacity, available facilities, and the cost per booking. You can always check beforehand for further details. Some locations may also feature multiple spots, each with different permitted activities.

How can I apply for a permit?

Just visit publicspace.bangkok.go.th and choose the venue where you would like to hold your event. Each venue page indicates the expected review period for your request, which may range from 7–14 days or up to 30 days. Select the date and time for your activity. You will need to create an account first, so be sure to do this before submitting your application along with the required documents.

After submitting, wait for your request to be approved and pay the applicable fee (if any). Access to the area must follow the terms, dates, times and details clearly stated in the permit, in accordance with each venue’s regulations for area usage. Any applicable fines must also be paid in line with these regulations.

Several venues on the platform are tagged “recommended” by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. To make things easier, Koktail gives you a snapshot of each venue, so you can start mapping out your plans immediately.
