Thailand Becomes the First to Launch Cherrapunji Eastern Crafted Gin Outside India

Cherrapunji Eastern Crafted Gin is produced using harvested rainwater and Khasi botanicals, and is now available outside India for the first time.

Imported and distributed by Inspirador Crafted Spirits, the gin captures the essence of Northeast India, created with pure rainwater harvested from Cherrapunji and Mawsynram and infused with native botanicals. Each bottle tells a story of place, culture and sustainability, combining meticulous craftsmanship with a deep sense of heritage.

Co-Founder & Brand Development Lead of Inspirador Crafted Spirits, Deepak Soni, says:

Born of Rain: How Cherrapunji Gin Captures the Essence of the Northeast

says Mayukh Hazarika, founder and CEO of Cherrapunji Gin.

At the heart of Cherrapunji Gin is a dedication to authenticity, craftsmanship and a strong sense of place.

The gin is the creation of Raincheck Earth Co. Made with pure rainwater collected from Cherrapunji and Mawsynram, the two wettest places on Earth, this gin reflects its own character. The naturally soft, mineral-rich water forms the base for a spirit infused with 11 local botanicals, including Khasi mandarin, Sohmarit pepper, Kaji Nemu lemon, smoked black cardamom and pine-smoked tea. The result is a gin that is aromatic and rooted in the landscapes and biodiversity of Northeast India.

Cherrapunji Gin represents an important step for the region underrepresented in India’s formal spirits industry. Supported by the Meghalaya government and guided through logistical and regulatory challenges, the brand is helping to open the door for other regional producers to reach international markets.

Sustainable through Bottle

Its visual identity is designed to reflect its origins. Instead of using traditional glass, the gin is packaged in a reusable, military-grade steel container inspired by the flora and cultural motifs of Meghalaya. The sculpted surface echoes the look of rainfall over the region’s mountain ridges. Minimalist labelling and environmentally conscious materials further highlight the brand’s focus on responsible design, which also makes each bottle a keepsake.

This approach has received international recognition. Cherrapunji Gin has earned 13 awards to date, including the Master 2023 medal at the Global Spirits Masters and a Silver at the World Gin Awards, underscoring the quality and creativity behind the brand.

As part of its Thai debut, Cherrapunji Gin featured at Ginventure 2025, offering guests an exclusive Masterclass led by Mayukh Hazarika. Held on 22 November, the session titled “From Rainwater to a World-Class Gin” highlighted the craftsmanship and philosophy behind this spirit.

Attendees had the opportunity to explore the gin’s rich story from sourcing rainwater in the world’s wettest regions to blending Khasi botanicals that reflect local ecosystems. The Masterclass emphasised the brand’s mission: to share the narratives, creativity and talent of Northeast India with the world, connecting culture and craft in every pour.

Hazarika explains.

Cherrapunji Gin’s journey from the rain-soaked hills of Meghalaya to the global stage represents a fusion of heritage, sustainability and innovation. With its launch in Thailand and upcoming releases in Japan and the United Kingdom, Cherrapunji Gin continues to share the spirit of Northeast India with the world. One exquisite sip at a time.
