As the 2024 Olympic Games draw near, the uniforms of athletes from various countries have become a hot topic. Here’s what is being talking about:
This year, the team will wear blue silk dresses, a departure from the grey formal suits of previous Olympic Games. The new design features a distinctive fabric pattern around the neck, a button line down the middle of the shirt, and unique sleeve details.
Ralph Lauren – The iconic American designer has crafted the uniforms for Team USA, combining classic American style with modern elements. The Opening Ceremony outfits feature a navy blazer, striped tie, and tailored trousers, while the Closing Ceremony outfits include a moto-style denim jacket and jeans. Sarah Hirshland, CEO of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, praised the designs for embodying American pride and unity.
Stéphane Ashpool – Designer Stéphane Ashpool, in collaboration with luxury brand Berluti, created Team France’s uniforms. The sleek blue tuxedos have been lauded for their blend of performance and French elegance, incorporating eco-friendly materials.
The kit for Team Italy at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, designed by EA7 Emporio Armani, was unveiled during the Emporio Armani Men’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection presentation. Twelve athletes, six Olympians and six Paralympians, showcased the specially created garments on the Armani/Teatro catwalk.
ASICS – ASICS designed Japan’s uniforms with a minimalist aesthetic combined with advanced sportswear technology. The designs have been praised for their elegance and practicality.
Lululemon – Lululemon introduced a fresh approach to Team Canada’s uniforms, incorporating floral patterns and a mix of athleisure and formal elements. The designs capture Canada’s natural beauty and cultural diversity while ensuring comfort and performance.
Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean is creating uniforms for Team Haiti at the Paris Olympics. Jean partnered with Haitian painter Philippe Dodard, incorporating his artwork “Passage” into the designs. The women’s uniform features a full skirt with Dodard’s artwork, paired with a chambray shirt woven in Haiti, and a sleeveless blazer made from recycled fabric. The men’s uniform includes pants with Dodard’s motif, a field jacket inspired by the Haitian Guayabera shirt, a striped shirt, and a printed scarf. Despite Haiti’s current turmoil, Jean describes the athletes as “standard bearers of peace” and symbols of rebirth.
Michel & Amazonka – The Mongolian brand Michel & Amazonka received widespread acclaim for their 2024 Olympic uniforms, described as a “blend of beauty and tradition.” The outfits feature national symbols like the Nine White Banners and the Gua-Maral, intricately embroidered with golden thread. Social media and former Olympians have praised these designs, with some calling them the most beautiful uniforms at the Games.
