Heritage Railcar Bedroom Villa
The InterContinental Khao Yai Resort has completed its final phase of construction and now welcomes visitors to a memorable, thematic stay. With 19 suites and villas made from repurposed heritage railcars, the hotel’s designer, Bill Bensley, wanted to pay homage to the traditional mode of transport. Since their introduction during King Rama V’s reign, the railroads were a significant gateway for Thai travellers to neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar and many others. Connecting the past to the present, these destinations have become the moniker for each of the resort’s distinct rooms.
During the recollection and restoration stages of railcars across Thailand, Bensley noticed that some of them had been abandoned for more than 50 years and had been taken over by Ficus trees. So, the designer made a point to preserve some of the root systems to ground the carriages within its surrounding nature.
Inside the 47 square metre suites, the wagons have been meticulously refashioned to evoke a classic atmosphere. Time travel back to the past with scenic wallpaper, bold panelling, ambient light, and touches of Thai silk from Jim Thompson. All rooms are fitted with an outdoor terrace with private plunge pool.
Apart from the one-of-a-kind rooms, the InterContinental Khao Yai Resort has also installed two French-themed dining spots. Starting with a luxurious French bistro, Poirot serves classic regional French recipes such as Soupe à l’oignon, Boeuf Bourguignon, and Savarin Cake. Meanwhile, the Papillion Bar transforms the mood with its flirtatious and effervescent environment and cocktails. You can also expect an array of champagne and curated wines and whiskies on offer.
On track for the pinnacle of relaxing stays, the spa at InterContinental Khao Yai Resort boasts expert therapists and 100% organic skincare products. The range of treatments cover organic facials, full body massages, full body scrubs, full body wraps, hair treatments, and more.
For guests aged 4-12, the resort’s Planet Trekker programme has a line-up of activities that will ensure a deeper connection with nature and Khao Yai’s history. The InterContinental Khao Yai Resort also provides Thai dancing classes, koi fish feeding, and origami crafting for those looking for unique experiences.
