An upcoming transgender documentary called Nel Mio Nome, which translates to “Into My Name”, has brought on Elliot Page as its executive producer. The film is set to be directed by Italian director Nicolò Bassetti.
Scheduled to premiere in February at the Berlin International Film Festival, the storyline follows a group of four friends in Italy—Nic, Leo, Andrea and Raf—as they come to terms with their identity, transitioning from female to male at different times in their lives. This film will mark Bassetti’s second documentary as a director following Magnificent Fortunes back in 2018. Nel Mio Nome is based on Bassetti’s own experience witnessing his son’s transition. The filmmaker says that his personal experience as a parent allowed him “to find the necessary self-assurance to approach the protagonists of this story, to delve into their emotions and establish an intimate relationship built on trust and complicity”. He adds, “I am truly grateful to Elliot for adding his lived perspective to help our film find its way in the world.”
Page, of course, came out publicly as transgender in 2020, after starring in a number of acclaimed films and series, including Juno, Inception and The Umbrella Academy. The 34-year old became the first openly trans man to appear on the cover of Time. On the new assignment, Page expressed that the way the film artfully and intentionally presents all the different pieces that make up a person’s identity stood out for him. Comparing it to a meditation on trans humanity, the Canadian actor also stated that it’s beautiful knowing that Bassetti consulted with his trans son throughout production. “I think that lived experience and input is clear in the film’s perspective. I’m honored to be on board and can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
