Nikorn Saetang

Nikorn Saetang

Artistic Director/Writer/Actor/Director, Theatre 8x8

Industry : The Arts

Recognised with the Silpathorn Award, Nikorn is known for tackling social issues and ethical dilemmas through interactive theatre experiences. His Theatre8x8 focuses on contemporary or universal themes that connect to the audience’s daily life. Graduating from Thammasat University and the International School of Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris, he ran a small theatre space in Samyan area as a struggling artist, but is now proud to say that his original scripts have been translated into Japanese, and he has directed a few stage performances in Tokyo. Recently he rose to the challenge of transforming a Thai work to an outdoor stage with Korean artists at the International Environmental Theatre Festival 2022 in South Korea. He has been focussing on the art of silence, and now hopes to explore masked theatre as well as contemporary dance based on classical Thai dance movement. His collection of plays is what he hopes future generations will remember him by. When he’s not doing theatre, he’s aquascaping or playing with his pet cat, dog and corn snake. One day he hopes people in power will realise that art is a necessity of life, not an extravagance.
