Industry : The Arts

2020’s breakout Thai rapper isn’t just barely out of high school but also a female who can rapidly spit Isaan dialects along with deep Thai slang. Inspired by the first season of Thai reality TV show The Rapper, Danupha Kanateerakul, AKA Milli, signed up for the second season and made it all the way to the Final Rhyme. It was an original track launched on YouTube earlier this year, however, that would really catapult her fame in Thailand overnight. The hit song "Pak Gon", which discusses the over-sexualisation of girls and the culture of slut-shaming has garnered over 72 million views. In August 2020 Milli also dropped another track Sudpang!, an anthem about beauty and confidence sung in four different Thai dialects and English, which was viewed more than 10 million times in one week. This “mini Nicki Minaj” is now affiliated with niche Thai hip hop collective YUPP! amongst talents like Maiyarap, Ben Bizzy and Blacksheep, as the only female rapper on the roster. She is celebrated for being unapologetically herself and for not being afraid to speak or sing her mind about norms which need not be.
