Volunteer First Responder

Aornvara “Prin” Uchupalanun began volunteering with the Poh Teck Tung Foundation when she was just 10. Since then, weekends that might ordinarily have been devoted to teenage pursuits have instead included traffic accidents, fires and medical emergencies, working alongside rescue teams to administer first aid, perform CPR and help patients reach hospital safely.

Service runs in the family. Growing up surrounded by relatives involved in volunteer rescue work gave Prin an early understanding of what it means to step forward when others need help. She is now pursuing a medical degree, building formal knowledge on a foundation of unusually hands-on experience.

Her volunteering also extends beyond emergency response. An equestrian herself, Prin supports equine-assisted therapy for children with special needs, helping create a calm environment in which young participants can develop confidence.

Language skills add another dimension. Fluent in English and Chinese, she has assisted international patients during emergencies, helping overcome communication barriers at moments when clarity and speed can matter enormously.

What distinguishes Prin’s story is less what she says about service than the consistency with which she practises it. From roadside emergencies to therapeutic work with children, compassion is translated into action – a commitment formed remarkably early and now pointing naturally towards a life in medicine.
