If the Greeks are known for epicurean indulgence, then Aesop's is a tribute to this heritage. Established in Sydney in 1989 by the Gamvros family from Samos, Greece, this boisterous taverna came to Bangkok to introduce the delights of Greek dining culture to Thailand.
Evenings of plate-smashingfestivities, loud exclamations, and table side flambes means this is not for the faint-hearted. The cavernous space mimics a Greek temple with a playful makeover. Neon signs and headwear options for diners infuse a party vibe. Selections of Greek and international wines, signature mythology-themed cocktails, and various colourful shots raise the evening's volume.
As for the food, variety is the best course of action. Opt for chef's mix dips and bread basket as an appetiser for the table. Then a selection of small 'Mezedes' plates for sampling. Highly recommended are spanakopita and flaming cheese saganaki, flambéed tableside for your camera's pleasure. Signature plates make excellent centre pieces for sharing. Go for the mixed grill platter - a board of chicken and pork souvlaki, chicken gyros, soutzoukakia (minced beef and lamb kofta), meatballs, and a good selection of sides. Have fun with your dessert and order the Aesop's choco smash - you'll need gloves. Then end the meal with another round of shots. Opa!
Feeling extra festive? Borrow one of their laurel wreaths to wear and dine in full Greek style.
