In 1980, only five years into the character\u2019s run, she became responsible for the visual appearances of the little London \u201cgirl\u201d (not actually a cat, despite the whiskers).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hello Kitty\u2019s garish bow, pointy little ears and signature expressionless stare have long defined her minimalist charm, an approach that turned her into one of Japan\u2019s most influential pop-culture ambassadors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, Yamaguchi\u2019s creative vision helped Hello Kitty take the lead in kawaii culture, embracing a gentle femininity
