Here’s all you need to know about season 2 of the show that has blown us all away

Ever since the highly-anticipated HBO show The Last of Us began airing, it has left viewers craving more.

Based on the video game of the same name, the post-apocalyptic drama follows smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal), who is hired to transport Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity’s last hope. In 2003, a mass fungal infection broke out and caused a global pandemic which turned humans into zombie-like creatures. However, Ellie is immune to the infection, and could be the key in creating a vaccine.

Just three episodes in, and quicker than any virus outbreak, the show officially revealed on Instagram that The Last of Us season 2 is definitely happening, captioned, “The journey continues”.

Executive producer and game creator Neil Druckmann shared, “I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast & crew, and HBO exceeded my already high expectations.”

The first season of the show is expected to cover all the events of the first video game. According to the creators of the show, Neil and Craig, they had always been planning for a potential season two. The duo also revealed the amount of story that remains has not yet been covered, which would mean more than a single season of television.

As for season 2, it would cover events in the sequel game Part II. Set five years after the events of The Last of Us, the second season will see Ellie and Joel settled down in Wyoming and living with a group of survivors—only to be threatened by a brutal event. The season will also feature the introduction of new character Abby, whose story intertwines with Ellie’s.

Although there has not been an official release date, fans hope it’s ASAP.
