Located on Chuea Phloeng road, Yun restaurant is one of the few places in Bangkok serving Yunnan cuisine, bringing the mountain soul of China’s southwest to the city. The space feels warm and homely, with touches of modern simplicity and light echoing the misty calm of its regional roots. Yun pancake opens the meal beautifully, with layers of arugula, coriander, crown daisy, perilla, chives and celery coming together under tomato and radish sauces, blanketed with cheese. Wok-fried mushrooms with Yunnan ham deliver a pleasant chew. Cold sliced beef with chilli sauce refreshes with crisp celery, crushed peanuts and coriander, tossed in bright chilli oil that burns gently before giving way to cool, tender beef. Charred eggplant and tofu salad elevates humble ingredients into smoky eggplant and silken tofu dressed with garlic, sesame oil and a hint of chilli. The highlight is braised pork belly with aged citrus peel. The pork is meltingly tender, while shredded citrus rest on top, releasing a bright, heady aroma. Grilled spicy sea bass with lemongrass speaks to anyone who loves fish, its marinated sauce distinctive. Mapo tofu with minced beef brings heat and numbing, satisfying kick for spice lovers. End with pumpkin pancakes and falooda, a joyful mix of purple rice, pandan jelly and coconut milk. The restaurant offers enough variety for veggie lovers too.
Downstairs seating best for atmosphere; birthday guests enjoy free yun pancake.
