Sirocco on the 64th floor of State Tower was Bangkok’s first true destination dining experience and to this day the initial feeling as you walk out from the Dome, past the live jazz musicians (Tues to Sundays), and on to the bar before being seated, is truly breathtaking. On a clear night there is still no experience quite like this. Nowadays the menu is a 5-course tasting menu curated by newly arrived, and much travelled, chef Brian Rodriguez that has fun sampling the cuisines of Europe. The kitchen team are accommodating and happy to prepare a vegetarian menu alongside the protein choice with an impressive dedicated wine pairing to match. Enormous effort goes into the plating, one imagines to try to compete for camera time against the views. With just 5 courses, plus an amuse bouche and a pre-dessert, the individual dishes are robust and the service takes around 2 hours in total. A typical main dish might be Japanese wild flounder with Argentinian shrimp, fennel and saffron champagne sauce. For vegetarians, zucchini flower, celeriac green peas and yuzu vinaigrette with mounds of truffle shavings. As the night progresses the menu changes to accommodate late night diners and post dinner drinkers, with à la carte and snack menus, as the kitchen and table staff work late into the night.
f it happens to be a romantic rainy night large umbrellas are assembled, or diners can be accommodated within the dome.
