Sky high dining in Bangkok doesn't necessarily mean sky high food standards. But at Scarlett, the towering view over the big city is matched by equally elevated cuisine. Wisely, the venue doesn't attempt to reinvent the wheel with its judicious selection of French bistro favorites and chargrilled specialties flamed to perfection in its open kitchen. Sweeping views of lower Silom and the Chao Phraya River provide a spectacular conversation starter. Following those first impressions, the restaurant tends to let its produce do the talking. Grazers can kick back with cured hams from all over Europe, seasonal oysters, and a selection from over 50 varieties of Appellation d'Origine Controlee (AOC) cheese from France.
These premium nibbles are most effectively accompanied by a keenly priced glass of wine from a long list of imported bottles. Yet Scarlett doesn't fall short with its more substantial items either. Beef is dry aged in-house and then broiled on the chargrill and served up alongside exemplary sides. Other thrills from the grill include organic lamb chops served with potato millefeuilles and red wine sauce. Indeed, the kitchen keeps things legit throughout a journey that veers from savoury starters like pan seared foie gras served with pumpkin risotto to decadent closers including chocolate lava with 70% Valrhona chocolate.
