Review

Praya Dining is located within the 15-room Praya Palazzo, on the Chao Phraya River and offering a captivating dining experience with period-perfect decor of a 1920s neo-Palladian mansion. A visit is recommended to immerse oneself in Praya's historic charm. Accessible via a pre-arranged 10-minute boat ride from Phra Athit Pier on the opposite riverbank. The restaurant's unique showcase is a gastronomic journey through Siam's historical epochs. Beginning with the Sukhothai kingdom era and ending in the present. The menu offers culinary delights from each period.Indulge in la tiang, an ancient snack of pork, shrimp, and peanuts wrapped in an egg mesh. Try the ran juan curry, a flavoursome beef soup seasoned to perfection with shrimp paste. Experience sang wa kung pla duk fu, a dish combining roasted shrimp and crispy catfish salad for delightful texture and taste contrast. Bua loy look tarn, or rice flour balls immersed in coconut milk is a great ending, or alternatively, inthanil offers sago balls infused with young coconut meat, perfectly nestled in a bed of creamy coconut milk. Praya Dining offers a selection of beverages, including wines, cocktails, mocktails, and fruit juices. A visit promises not only a sumptuous meal but also an opportunity to embark on a remarkable journey through time and savour the delightful flavours of the past.

Culinary Gems of Thailand Ep. 4: Praya Dining

Introducing a new six-part series that goes into the daily lives of Thai chefs as they prepare food for their guests

Thailand’s Favourite Restaurants, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), introduces “Culinary Gems of Thailand”, a new six-part series that ventures into the daily lives of some of Thailand’s most acclaimed chefs as they prepare food for their guests, from market to table.

In this episode, Natalie and Nigel immerse themselves in more traditional Thai dining at Praya Dining. Housed at Praya Palazzo, the timeless Andrea Palladio-styled mansion lends itself to creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy impeccable Thai food on the Chao Phraya river bank. In order to reach this eye-catching restaurant, our hosts hop on a quick boat ride from Phra Athit Pier. Popping into the kitchen, they have a chat with chef Na and learn about how she and her team handle cooking techniques from a bygone era.

If you give Praya Dining a visit, be sure to ask to see chef Na and her charming smile. She is always happy to share her 35 years of cooking experience and maybe a few secrets with her guests.
