This Bangkok outpost of the renowned Ministry of Crab flourishes in bustling Sukhumvit. The concept is a celebration of the stunning Sri Lankan Lagoon crab, conceived years ago in Colombo, Sri Lanka by master chef Dharshan Munidasa. The restaurant is on two levels, the ground floor offering a bird's eye view of the open kitchen, the first floor, a recent addition, providing a quieter, perhaps more romantic ambience with a stylish interior of striking black and orange. The menu lists many favourites, showcasing the star of the show, the crab. There are options for non-crab eaters, including a tasty chicken teriyaki and fish dishes using the popular seer. Begin with a glass of wine from a concise selection chosen to perfectly compliment the food. The sublime crab liver pate is recommended; although subject to availability as it takes many crabs to produce this delicacy. An appetiser of kaphrao crab is rapidly gaining fans. The main event, larger sized crabs, offer a turbo charged level of sweetness. Signature sauces include a celebrated, black pepper and a moreish olive oil garlic chili. Butter glistening garlic bread for mopping up the sauce is obligatory. Complete your Ministry of Crab visit with a luscious coconut crème brûlée, theatrically torched at table.
Advance ordering of chilled butter crab will ensure diners experience why this crab is acknowledged as a world-beater.
