Review

Kiew Kai Ka is a wonderfully authentic Thai restaurant that presents rare traditional contemporary Thai cuisine, very much respecting the original flavours. This glasshouse restaurant boasts a unique and refreshing ambiance with abundant plant décor welcoming diners into a serene oasis combining a homey feel with distinctive touches of nature.

The menu begins with a traditional summer-time Thai appetiser, the dried fish with watermelon presents a delightful combination. The crispy fried shallots atop the dish offer a satisfying crunch harmonising well with the natural sweetness of the watermelon. The rice cracker with pork and shrimp dipping sauce, with its contrasting textures and balanced flavours, is a strong recommendation. Among the main courses, herbed crab curry with wild betel leaves is a standout, offering a remarkable flavour profile enhanced by the infusion of herbs. Accompanying this dish, lotus root salad with shrimp provides a refreshing complement.

For dessert, tropical fruit with scented syrup is a rare find, whilst the sticky rice pearls in coconut milk offers a sweet and satisfying finale. The beverage options include herbal drinks, juices, and wines. The staff are friendly and keen to assist with recommendations. Kiew Kai Ka is a good choice for an unforgettable Thai dining experience.

6 CBD-Friendly Cafes and Restaurants to try in Bangkok

Cannabis culture in the city is at an all-time high

Following recent changes to cannabis laws in Thailand, cafes and restaurants across the country are now becoming weed-friendly, serving drinks and dishes that are cannabis-infused. However, it’s important to note that recreational use of THC products is still very much illegal, and smoking ganja still leads to jail time. To comply with the new regulations, these cannabis-infused dishes won’t get you high—they contain less than 0.2% of THC (or tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive component that causes the high. The other component of cannabis is cannabidiol or CBD, which offers medicinal properties to treat everything from inflammation and illness to depression and anxiety.

That being said, it’s true that Thailand has become the first country in the Asian region to decriminalize the plant. So if you’re up to exploring CBD food and drinks—from hemp-flavored desserts to cannabis-infused Thai dishes—here are a few pot-friendly places you can enjoy in town:

1/6 Kiew Kai Ka

This very green restaurant, whose name literally means “celadon green” in Thai, offers authentic Thai dishes with a healthy dose of cannabis leaves. With two branches, one in Chiang Mai and another one in Bangkok, the cafe also serves tea, coffee, and cannabis-based baked goods. The restaurant features tropical greenery in two glasshouse structures. You can savor your meal in the dining room, outdoor patio, or the cozy cafe.

Priced at 3,555++ baht, the course moves through 15 items that include Kyuri Sunomono Hemp and Kinmedai Hemp. You can also order “tea of happiness”, a cannabis-induced tea.
