With twelve branches in Bangkok (and one in Phuket), this authentic urban Cantonese restaurant has secured the hearts of locals, tourists, traditionalists and modern foodies alike. The best way to enjoy Hong Bao's menu is in large numbers - the variety of must-try dishes will require several dining companions. The stars are, of course, the dim sum. All options are tempting, but do order the barbecued pork polo and golden salted egg buns. Portions are respectable and fillings are hearty. For the larger unmissable mains, the Hong Bao roasted combination platter of a generous serving of roast duck, char siu pork, and crispy pork belly with appropriate condiments on the side. Perfectly marinated and indulgent in texture, the baked lobster and egg noodles makes an excellent centre-piece. For an accompanying rice dish, take the incredible millionaire fried rice, a combination of dried scallops, char siu pork, shrimp, and roasted duck. The no-frills yet sufficiently polished setting makes for a versatile venue suitable for groups, business, or families. An extensive wine, spirits, and beers list, as well as traditional Chinese teas, smoothies and fruit juices are available.
