Owners Oranan from Thailand and Eric from Boston USA have taken a bold approach to vegan dining in Bangkok, mixing cocktails and well-selected natural wines with an experimental plant-based Japanese-California fusion experience. Open from afternoon until late in the evening. Late night ramen and izakaya style bites cater to the later crowd but those looking for a seriously well-crafted and expertly cooked vegan experience should go earlier and take time with the menu. Tokyo tofu deep fried with a citrus sour sauce, deep fried dehydrated enoki mushrooms sushi rolls, yuzu cashew chicken or crab cakes made from jack fruit are great sharing dishes with the obligatory chef's sushi selection to kick off. Red and green dragon offers an avocado based dish with water melon shrunk down to evaporate, served with re-hydrated ginger sauce giving a glimpse of the creativity that goes into the menu. There is not a hint of any processed fake meat on the menu and the sauces are ever being modified as Eric experiments with new spices herbs and chilies. The cocktails are shaken with a hint of showmanship and the music has a modern vibe befitting of the cool decor. Those looking for a late afternoon coffee and bite will find a welcome respite from the Ekkamai traffic too.
