Coastiera is a new arrival to the Italian dining scene in Bangkok. The restaurant is dominated by a central bar with a stage for live entertainment. The cuisine focusses on the Southern Italian coast with Sardinian head chef Andrea Ortu, no stranger to Bangkok Italian restaurant aficionados. Begin with beef carpaccio or tuna tartare, both expertly showcasing premium ingredients. Alternatively choose a hot beginning of cannolicchi clams, deliciously fresh razor clams in a piquant white wine sauce. The pastas are outstanding, with choices of angel hair lobster in a stellar bisque or linguine with scallops in a stylish agio olio.
The filled pastas are equally impressive with a memorably decadent handmade ravioli of truffle in an earthy mushroom ragu with generous shavings of parmigiana. Sardinian culurgiones delicately filled with shrimp, squid and green peas show culinary prowess. Mains also delight with a selection of big cuts to share, Australian wagyu, ribeye and a whole roasted suckling pig. Fish is well represented with glacier 51Chilean sea bass in an elegant saffron sauce, Dover sole with cherry tomatoes, capers and olives or Coastiera fish soup; hearty and flavourful. Desserts include Sorrento lemon sponge with limoncello and classic tiramisu, both a perfect ending. The wine list is global, with several gran riserva options and an exciting offering by glass.
Spaghetti Coastiera with red prawns, mullet roe and tomatoes in a rich, creamy Buffalo mozzarella sauce is the must order.
