A Sukhumvit area favourite for nearly 25 years, Chesa has moved to new digs embedded in the serpentine laneways of Sukhumvit 34, in a spacious converted house, simply and brightly decorated. The new location opened in 2025 is typically busy midweek, as loyalists have followed. Swiss cuisine is more than a delicious cheese fondue. A hub at the confluence of Italy, France, Germany and Austria, each with its own famed dishes, Swiss dining is influenced by them all. Everything is in a time-tested classical style with no ‘nouveau Suisse’ pretentions. Mushroom ravioli comes with savoury-tangy white wine cream sauce. Slow-roasted lamb shoulder in garlic gravy with rosti potato, is outstandingly moist and tender against the delightful crunch of potato. The menu is extensive, with a wide range of pastas and meats and melted cheeses and more. Crème brûlée, expertly topped with caramelised sugar, is a perfect finish. This is pure comfort food – rich, filling, creamy, savoury, not overly ornate that feels familiar, palette friendly and satisfying. It could only feel more comforting if you were at a ski lodge in the Alps. Staff from front of house to kitchen are efficient, polite and friendly, offering a happy vibe, so the dining experience is relaxed and nicely paced. The wine list has more than 60 offerings including some excellent Swiss labels.
A cliché perhaps, raclette fondue at Chesa is an essential WELCOME indulgence.
