Baan Mon Muan, is located an hour's drive from Chiang Mai, in the rolling hills of Mae Rim. Perched on a hilltop with breathtaking views of Mon Jam mountain, the weather is coolyear-round. Book a stay at one of the beautifully appointed villas, an enjoyable high point of any trip to the north. The dining room is traditional and simply furnished, with many larger tables for family dining, the ambience is of dining in a friend's home. A popular lunch venue with the most sought-after tables being on the open-air terraces, also in demand early evening to view the memorable sunset. The menu is a comprehensive offering of heirloom Thai home-comfort dishes. Whether one chooses tom yum with succulent prawns, a fragrant chicken green curry or a local, rich Hang Lay with melt in the mouth pork belly, diners will enjoy the authenticity. With several exceptional curry dishes to enjoy, that unique combination of a fluffy and slightly charred, Thai omelette will be a perfect partner, plain or with minced shrimp or shallots and kaffir lime. Side dishes to accompany are in abundance including choices of local, organic vegetables, many picked from the extensive, surrounding grounds. Service staff are friendly and helpful. There is a separate well stocked bar with wines, beers and spirits.

Culinary Gems of Thailand Season 2 Ep. 5: Baan Mon Muan

Koktail & Tourism Authority of Thailand

Thailand’s Favourite Restaurants, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), introduces season 2 of “Culinary Gems of Thailand”, with six new episodes hosted by Natalie Phanphensophon and Nigel Oakins. They venture into the daily lives of Thailand’s most interesting chefs and in this episode, the delightful dishes are served in a charming Lanna home-style resort with views of the Mon Cham hills.

Natalie and Nigel visited Baan Mon Muan in the rainy season and enjoyed marvellous misty vistas as well as great food. The name itself, originating from the language spoken in northern Thailand, means the “Hill of Fun,” embodying a place of happiness for all who visit. Simple Thai cuisine and traditional Northern Thai dishes beautifully presented, using fresh vegetables and ingredients for visitors to enjoy while looking at the view of the mountains from the Lanna-style resort with stunning individual wooden guest houses. For over two decades, Sue Suaraya Weerasethakul and Rath Sirirat Ruengchai have poured their hearts into making Baan Mon Muan a great place to eat and stay ably watched over by house-cats Moo Ping and Khao Niao.
