Exciting news has been confirmed—Netflix will soon bring us a live-action series of One Piece, the 1997 Japanese manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, featuring a talented young cast to portray the beloved Straw Hat Pirates.
One Piece is one of the world's most popular anime shows, boasting an impressive 1,000 episodes, making it one of the longest-running anime series to date. The storyline follows Monkey D. Luffy and his adventurous crew, the Straw Hat pirates, on their quest for the legendary treasure known as One Piece.
Fans can look forward to details on the live-action cast, an intriguing trailer, episode information, and the eagerly awaited release date, all to be available on Netflix.
In celebration of One Piece Day, which takes place annually on July 22, Netflix has treated fans with its longest trailer ever, offering a fresh glimpse into the show, diving deeper into the crew's adventurous journey, showcasing intriguing peeks of the Straw Hats' ship and flag. Additionally, viewers get sight of the formidable villains they will encounter in the upcoming season, among them Buggy the Star Clown.
In addition to the new trailer, Netflix shared a heartfelt letter from Oda himself, expressing his admiration for the series' creators and actors:
“There was so much that went into it—all of the efforts by the actors, the building of the world and the costumes, presenting things in a way that can only be done in live action, the dialogue and the entire process of so many people putting their heads together was a festivity in and of itself.”
After seven years of dedicated work, Oda expressed his genuine excitement for the series to be seen by audiences. He wholeheartedly praised the production team and cast.
The first live-action season of One Piece will comprise eight episodes, all ready to be streamed on August 31, 2023 on Netflix.
