BlackPink Makes History at the 2022 VMAs

The group made their debut on the main stage along with other remarkable firsts

The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards took place on August 28th at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, where there were many unforgettable moments for all-girl K-pop group BlackPink. Dressed in all-black outfits, Lisa, Rosé, Jennie, and Jisoo gave Blinks a live performance of their pre-release single Pink Venom, their first time performing at an MTV annual award show and the first time any female K-pop group is performing at the VMAs.

BlackPink ended up taking home the trophy for Best Metaverse Performance (yes, that's a thing now) for Blackpink The Virtual–PUBG, which features the song Ready For Love for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Another remarkable first: BlackPink's Lisa Manoban individually won Best K-Pop Video for Lalisa, making her the first female solo K-pop artist to be nominated for a VMA.

In the past, BlackPink has been nominated several times at the VMAs—eight to be exact. Their first win was in 2020 for How You Like That in the category of Song of the Summer.

The group has recently announced their upcoming Born Pink World Tour. Beginning on October 15 of this year, the tour will span four continents—North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia—before coming to an end in June 2023. Their upcoming album Born Pink is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2022.
